"I Hate The Devil"

This post is in reference to the facebook page my son created and at times we share "I Hate The Devil."

I know my title has the word "Hate" in it which is exactly the opposite of what God is, and I'd like to address the meaning behind my emotion so it's not misunderstood. It's pretty simple because it is the same emotion David expressed when he wrote Psalm 139.

Psalm 139:19-24

If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
They speak of you with evil intent; your

adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

But what Christ teaches us about Anger is simple as well.

Matt 5:21-22

“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment. But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

It's so easy to get angry and over react to things, everywhere we look (video games, television, internet etc.) there's violence numbing our reaction to reality and how to behave. This is the enemy's world we are living in and things surround us everyday that can provoke a negative reaction. How do we survive? How do we reach the eternal life Christ has promised us, when it feels like everything is against us?

I started reading a book called "The Book Of God" by Walter Wangerin. It is subtitled 'The Bible as a Novel', is not a translation or even a loose paraphrase. Here is a link to the book that mimics my own personal review: http://www.ridley.cam.ac.uk/bsb/bsb8.html.

As I was reading I would find myself going to the Bible and looking through scriptures just so I could get more and yes there is more!! Slowly I began to noticed my faith was being renewed and strengthened. I read through the story of the Israelite's struggles and learned so much about God's character. I learned what it is to be loved by God and to fear Him as my Father. Right now I am actually reading about King David and can't put it down. David can teach you how to praise God through it all.

I'm realizing that I can put their practices to use today. At this time I have made a vow to God that I will read the bible and do a study everyday and through this I am learning that His word is Life! It's been very strengthening to this daily battle were in. I invite anyone to join me, but be warned making a promise to God is not to be taken lightly. I highly recommend reading about the Israelites before you make this or any commitment. God is a great and mighty God and His love is unfailing. He is to be praised and feared but don't pull away from Him because of what He teaches you about His character. He is loving and will reward you for your obedience in His time.
